Carbon Offsets: a new option to help neutralize our impact
We've teamed up with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to create options to further reduce our impact on the environment.
Creating products and limiting ourselves to materials that already exist utilizes quality materials that would otherwise go to waste. By avoiding the need to create additional materials, we're also lowering our carbon footprint in producing those products. When you purchase and support goods made of recycled materials and upcycled, less energy is used.
Unfortunately, the act of shipping a product means a driver picks up the packages from us or our warehouse, which is then driven to a routing facility, scanned, placed on another truck, driven to another facility, scanned and placed on another truck to be delivered on its way to you. If it goes via plane, the impact is even greater.
No matter how we do it, we all add a bit of impact to the system that effects climate change when we partake as consumers.
That's why we've created a new option to help neutralize the impact of shipping. When you shop at Looptworks.com, after placing an item in a cart and viewing the cart, you now have an additional option to add $1.00 to purchase carbon offsets that help reduce the impact of shipping.
That $1.00 will go towards 1/10 of a carbon offset.
What is a carbon offset?
A carbon offset is a reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide or greenhouse gases made in order to compensate for or to offset an emission made elsewhere.
Purchasing and supporting upcycled products created using existing materials reduces our collective carbon footprint. As shipping the upcycled goods adds it back in, we wanted to offer the ability for our customers to offset the impact of shipping their purchase.
If you select this option, we’ll utilize the funds to purchase carbon offsets from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation.
BEF carbon offsets represent the capture or reduction of harmful greenhouse gases emitted from sources such as animal waste, landfills, fossil fuels or refrigerants. The unit price for each carbon offset is $10.00. Behind the scenes, we've signed an agreement with the BEF to report in bi-annually and place the purchases.Funds used to purchase offsets support projects and programs that include forest management, renewable energy projects, waste heat capture and landfill gas destruction.
