BEHIND THE SEAMS: Operations Coordinator
Meet Riley, the Looptworks problem solver. In his short time with Looptworks, he has established himself as a crucial component in pushing us all forward. His eyes and ears are on everything that passes in and out of Looptworks HQ.
Hi Riley! Who are you?
I am Riley Sakamoto. I am from Honolulu and I moved to Portland just over five years ago for college and I decided to stay up here since I loved it so much. What I do for Looptworks as the Operations Coordinator executing all the logistics for the company. That might be order fulfillment, managing the raw materials or finished goods. If any items or samples move in and out of the company, I am most likely sketching that and have some knowledge of it.
When did you join the team?
I’ve been with the company for six months so I’ve been navigating the pandemic with Looptworks more or less since I got here.
What about Looptworks piqued your interest most when considering joining the team?
There is lot of waste associated with the textile industry that are massive contributors to air and water pollution and I think it’s great that there is a company out there that is providing solutions — They are illustrating that through upcycling there are more sustainable solutions to reduce the industry’s carbon footprint.
Do you have any kinds of personal connection to the industry?
I really like athletics. I’m a huge Manchester United fan, greatly and unfortunately. Haha. I have love for all sports and have a passion for streetwear. I’m a bit of a sneakerhead so working within those spheres with Looptworks is a lot of fun.
What did you study in college?
I studied Operations and Technology Management at the University of Portland.
How have you been staying sane during the pandemic?
I have been trying to workout as much as I can. I finally invested in some weights and building my home gym which has been rewarding. I’ve been playing lots of video games as a way to stay connected with friends both in Portland and back home.
Favorite Looptworks items?
I really like our SouthWest Bags, the duffles really suit my lifestyle. The Weekender. The Royal Robbin collection is really cool. I was excited to see the NBA masks come to life. I’m a big Blazers and Clippers fan so obviously their collections.
What are you most eager to learn from Looptworks?
I wouldn’t say there is any one subject or thing I’d like to learn but I definitely enjoy the office dynamic at Looptworks. There are endless opportunities to sample new tasks and develop new skills. I don’t foresee that ending anytime soon here. There is always something new for my mind to chew on. I am a lifetime learner.
What are you looking forward to most for the rest of 2020?
I can’t wait til we can travel and I can be with the people I care about under one roof.
