Beautiful and functional, suitable for work, play and travel, we created the Caliana Crossbody bag to be a work-life bag for people on the go. Wear it over your shoulder or across your body — the carrying strap is adjustable, and it’s sized to work as your work bag or everyday tote.
Each bag conserves roughly 2,800 gallons of water and there is a CO2 reduction of up to 82%. Additionally, we partnered with Relay Resources, a non-profit that employs adults with disabilities to dismantle and clean the seats. So not only do you have a bag with history, you can feel good about the purchase you've made too.

About Project LUV Seat
In order to conserve fuel, Southwest Airlines replaced their heavy leather airline seats with a lighter weight material, and they wanted to ensure that the journey didn’t end for 80,000 leather seat covers. We upcycled the seat leather into the In Flight Collection, conserving an estimated 2,000 gallons of water per pound of leather!
Learn how we repurposed airline seat covers and turned them into bags, and the design challenges we faced here.
How We Made The Caliana
The Caliana Crossbody is made using post and pre-consumer leather materials - the blue leather once flew the friendly skies as the headrest panel of a leather seat cover on Southwest Airlines Planes. When the SWA fleet changed over to a lighter material in order to conserve fuel, they turned to Looptworks to ensure the useful materials wouldn’t go to waste.
The black excess leather was once on track to be fashioned into motorcycle jackets by Langliz Leathers, which means it’s as durable as it gets.
Inside, we utilized german-milled 100% merino wool felt to form our laptop sleeve and accessory pockets. We sourced this excess felt from FilzFelt.
